Gabriel ‘Sekuru’ Makamanzi
is a renowned mbira artist and cultural educator from Zimbabwe. Known simply as Sekuru to his fans and colleagues, he has dedicated his life to promoting the richness and beauty of African culture through the universal language of music.
Sekuru has headlined numerous stages and international festivals worldwide, performing alongside some of the biggest names in African music, such as Shingai, Thomas Mapfumo, Mbuya Stella Chiweshe, and his late mentor, Andy Brown. He is widely regarded as one of the most gifted and dynamic mbira players of his generation, using his unique prowess to captivate audiences with his soulful and rhythmic melodies.
Beyond his impressive stage presence, Sekuru is also a celebrated cultural educator. He teaches in schools and organizations across the UK, sharing his knowledge and passion for African music and culture with students of all ages. Through his work, Sekuru empowers global communities to gain a grander appreciation of African heritage and traditions.
